Animal Success Stories

PAWS of Hertford County has adopted out or placed more than 4000 animals since August 2006.  Our animals are in good homes all over northeastern North Carolina, west to Raleigh, southeast to New Bern, and as far north as Virginia, Maryland and even New Jersey. We are thrilled to receive updates and pictures from the families of these wonderful cats and dogs.  If you would like your new PAWS family member to be posted on our website, please send to pawsofhertfordcounty@yahoo.com.

Skye, now Sunny

We brought Sunny home as a foster dog and introduced her to our other dog family member, Allie, and our cat, Keiki. Sunny is a yellow lab female about three years old. She bonded quickly and after a couple of weeks, we decided to adopt her into our family. Sunny is a very loving, intelligent dog who learned her “house manners” very quickly. We have been taking Sunny to the Cary dog park twice each day where she loves to retrieve her ball, chase other dogs and meet new people. She has been fantastic with both other dogs and people. We hadn’t planned to have another dog, but we’re pleased that we were introduced to Sunny as foster parents and are able to give her a loving home so different from her first two years of being chained up and neglected. - Ken Keeler

Stella
Stella

Terri Smith of Smithfield, Virginia writes:
"Stella has adjusted quite well in her new home with us and her quieter, much older step-sister Sipsa, who has come to accept her playful antics as that of just being Stella! She is quite the "social-lite" of our home as she deems all visitors as prospective playmates! She has also become my husband's shadow by becoming quite attached to him (most likely due to her previous owner being male). I'm not sure who is more attached to whom actually! She is just a sweet cat and the timing of her availability at the shelter when we began to seek to adopt another cat after the death of our first beloved cat 7 months prior, was surely pre-destined. She and her 2 companion sisters were brought to the shelter all at the age of 3, a difficult age for adoption as most folks fall in love with cute kittens and tend to overlook the adult animals. These 3 girls were all in good hands and well cared for at this shelter prior to having been adopted out to their respective families. Stella has graced our home with her lively presence and companionship for Sipsa and there couldn't have been a better match."

Sebastian
Sebastian

"Hello: I am emailing you to let you know how grateful we are that Sebastian is in our lives. We adopted Sebastian on December 31, 2008 and we have watched him grow into a healthy and spoiled kitten. Sebastian is up to date on all of his vaccinations and is scheduled to be neutered on February 13, 2009 at the Banfield Animal Hospital in Norfolk, VA. We are extremely happy that we were able to provide Sebastian with a loving home. He is a very happy and playful kitten that gets constant attention and love from both his mommy and his daddy. We have attached some pictures of Sebastian along with a wedding picture of us. We do not have any family pictures yet, but when we get one we will send it." Sincerely, Catherine and Ethan Heben

Sawyer, now Simon
Sawyer, now Simon

"JoAnn, Our family want to thank you and all your colleagues for the wonderful addition to our family. Simon (alias Sawyer) is the most amazing dog we have ever had in our family and I have ever known in my life. You want to hug him all day long. Maria will write and unfortunately I had to go away on a business trip on Sunday and I miss him after only knowing him a few hours. He is very gentle for his size, extremely smart, an interesting mix of Labrador Retreiver or Golden Retreiver (not sure) and German Sheppard. Amazingly Luke who is also very smart figured if I can't beat him I might as well join him. Adjusted very well for only 4 hours in his new home... after the head and shoulders shower, meal, tour of of the premises and intro to the new bed. Please drop by our home any time you would like to give Simon a hug... after all you're family. Thanks for bringing so much joy to our family." Best regards Gary

Sam and Butch
Sam and Butch

Sam and Butch, 11-month old Russian Blues, were surrendered to the shelter by their owner who suddenly decided he didn't want them anymore. They handled their abandonment with courage and grace, never showing fear or distress at the shelter. PAWS desperately wanted these boys to stay together, and thanks to Dennis and Wayne, they are now home to stay. Even Termite, the Cat Who Was Here First has begrudgingly agreed to the new guys in the house! The Blues Brothers aren't blue anymore.
